Buying a brand new motorcycle cannot always come to our account due to the various budget issues and more. Well, if we are in a condition for a need of a ride but our bank balance is not favoring our needs, then at such time, buying a used or second-hand motorcycle is the only option.

Furthermore, being a second-hand motorcycle then there must be many things that one should consider before spending the hard-earned money on it. Also, as the market for second-hand automobiles has grown at a huge pace today that it is very difficult for us to make an ideal choice.

Therefore, to help you guide in such a condition if you are in one, in this article we have enlisted five of the important things or tips that you should always look after before bringing a used motorcycle home.

1. Buy from reputable dealers

If you are going to buy the bike from a recondition shop or any other dealer, make sure that the dealer is quite a reputable one and has no frauds on the past records if possible. As some dealers even provide an ideal period of check time warranty, go for the ones that do. Also, if you have a friend or relative who has already bought a second-hand motorcycle from a dealer then consult with him.

Even if you have to spend a little bit of extra cash on the deal, don’t hesitate to go for it unless the product is absolutely great.

2. Check the flaws

As being a piece of machinery, all the motorcycles have some flaws. While in this case, being a used one, it can definitely have some so don’t forget to look for it.

Firstly, check out the brakes if it smoothly operates or not. Look out for the fuel leakages if it has any. To check that, if the bike has been recently washed then the part where there is oil spillage will generally shine more than the other areas on the bike. If possible, also ask for the service details.

Additionally, look at the frame details if the irons in the frame are deeply rusted of if there is any other defect while this may be the sign that the bike has not been serviced properly. Similarly, thoroughly inspect the chassis part too and see if there are any big dents or deep scratch marks. Also, see if the bike is freshly painted as it may be the sign that the bike has met an accident.

More on, check the chains if there is any sort of damage, look after the sprocket, hear the chain sound by rotating the rear tire and analyze if it is uniform. Thoroughly check the fuel tank if there is any corrosion or rust in it while also look for the tires if there is any harsh defect in it. Look out for the suspension is there is any bend, leaks or scratches so that it won’t create a trouble for you in the future. Also, see if there is any defect in the exhaust pipe or not. And lastly, check out the battery and electrical if they are working properly or not. Check if the switches, light signals are working good or not so that it won’t make a hassle for you in the future.

3.Have a test ride

Take the bike for a test ride. Choose a route which can be suitable for you to ride and test the ride. Check out how the ride goes along on sloppy roads, check the pick-up and power of the bikes, test the brakes and remember that brakes should never ‘pulse’ as it is the sign of warped disks. So, feel if it is smooth or not. Check the gear transmission if it firm or not and also, look out if the vehicle makes any kind of unusual engine sounds or creaking during rides as this may be a sign of defect. Always be careful in these facets.

4. Paperwork

This is the important part while buying a vehicle. Ask for the Registration Certificate book from the seller and match the engine and chassis number embossed on the bike with the numbers printed in the book. Also, ask for the insurance certificate of the vehicle with the owner so that it won’t be a hassle for you in the future.

5. Negotiation

Finally comes the negotiation part, never deal for the price that the seller offers you, always try to lower the price tag as much as you can. Research on the retail price of the bike in the market, compare and analyze what can be a fair deal for you. Then, set your price accordingly.
