Bagmati State Government to Implement ‘70 Points System’ in Trial Exams for Driving License From Flagun

The Bagmati State Government is preparing to implement a 70-point system for driver's license trial exams.

The Department of Transport Management introduced the system through the Driver's License Examination Procedures Directive (2077). It was set to come into effect in July 2021. However, the Bagmati State government had previously hesitated to implement the guideline citing technical difficulties.

But now, the Bagmati state government is ready to implement this new policy on February 13, 2022 (Mangsir 1, 2079).

’70 Points System’ in Trial Exam

According to the new license rule, examinees can now pass the trial examination even after scoring 70 points out of 100 in the test (trial) while in the case of the written examination, securing 80 points out of 100 will be considered a pass. However, this new rule is only applicable for four-wheelers and two-wheelers such as motorcycles, scooters, mopeds, cars, jeeps, vans, etc. excluding heavy-duty ones.

Read the information below to understand how the trial exam scores will be calculated and what actions may result in failing the exam.

Figure 8

While giving the trial exam, you need to first ride through figure 8. A total of 20 points will be awarded for this test. If your bike touches the borderline marked as 8 or if your foot touches the ground once, 5 points will be deducted each time. However, if these actions are repeated more than once, you will fail the test.

Moreover, if you do not make the figure 8 from the right direction or in the right way or if your vehicle goes beyond the figure 8, or if your vehicle gets turned off, you will be declared fail.

Narrow plank

In the Narrow Plank test, 10 points are assigned, and it is compulsory to pass this test. If you leave the plank before crossing it or if your foot touches the ground, you will fail.

U-Turn

In the U-Turn test, 10 points are assigned.  If you do not turn on the side indicators, you will lose 10 points.  However, if you touch the marked line, you will fail.

Traffic Signals

In the Traffic Signals test, 15 points are assigned, and you must follow the traffic light signals. If you fail to do so, you will lose all 15 points.

Speed Breaker

In the Speed Breaker test, 15 points are assigned. If you step on the ground or if your vehicle gets turned off, you will lose 5 points each. However, if these actions are repeated more than once, you will fail the test.

Ramp (Up and Down)

In the Ramp (Up and Down) test, 20 points are assigned. You must stop the vehicle in the center without touching the marked line. If you touch the marked line or if your vehicle moves more than 6 inches backward, you will fail.

Behavioral Aspects

In the Behavioral Aspects test, 10 points are assigned. If you do not check or adjust the vehicle's mirror, brake, and tire before riding, you will lose 3 points. If you forget to wear a helmet properly, you will lose 4 points, and if you ride recklessly, you will lose 3 points.
