More About BAW
Beijing Auto Works, also known as BAW is a Chinese car manufacturer founded in 1951. Its manufacturing bases are located in Qingdao, Linyi, Huanghua, and Dezhou. Back in the day,
BAW was one of the second large-scale automotive enterprises in the new China.
After its first startup in 1951, BAW has come a long way in the automotive industry. BAW used to produce light off-road vehicles and trucks at the beginning. After its second and third startups in 1983 and 2020, it started producing civilian vehicles including A0/A00 level new passenger cars, off-road vehicles, MPVs and pick-ups, mini trucks, small trucks as well as military vehicles such as the 212 series, and Warrior series.
How BAW Brumby Best Fits Nepal’s Automotive Needs
Most EVs are quite expensive to invest in even if it’s less expensive to maintain compared to ICE vehicles. And here comes our saviour, BAW Brumby EV. A city-focused all-electric budget-friendly 4-wheeler priced at 23 lakhs.
Priced at such an affordable range, this EV is a great choice for Nepalese EV buyers who are price-conscious. The Brumby EV provides a 6-year warranty on the battery and motor. Its dimensions make it an ideal choice for commuting
As we all know, Nepal doesn’t have its own oil, gas, or coal resources. Nepal heavily relies on India for the import of petroleum. Nepalese consumers are now finally realizing these concerns, starting to choose electric commutes more often. The EV market is slowly but steadily growing in Nepal.
Reasons to Consider Buying BAW Brumby
Here are a few good reasons why the BAW Brumby should be your next electric vehicle, specifically for urban and budget-conscious drivers.
Performance Metrics
With its 30 kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor, the Brumby makes 40.7 PS of power and up to 120 Nm of torque for a smooth and responsive drive. The 17.28 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery does its job quite well, returning a respectable 205 km range under CLTC—just the ticket to make daily urban commutes efficient. Practicality is further enhanced with a charging time of 5 hours from a 3.3kW AC charger. It comes with a top speed of 100 km/h, perfect for city driving and occasional highway use.
Cost Considerations
Priced at Rs. 23,00,000, it is an affordable option for Nepalese Automobile customers. This means less fossil fuel consumption and its minimal maintenance makes it much more economical in the long term.
Technical Features
The Brumby EV is equipped with airbags and ABS with EBD, complemented by the 360-degree camera and tire-pressure monitoring system. The dimensions of the car are 3532 x 1498 x 1605 mm with a ground clearance of 170 mm, thus is perfect for narrow city roads. Weighing 830 kg at the kerb, handling & efficiency are both improved.
Reason to Avoid BAW Brumby
Despite all the advantages, the BAW Brumby may not suit everyone, especially those with certain expectations in terms of performance or features. Here are some potential drawbacks of the EV.
Disadvantages
The 205 km (CLTC) range may fall short for interstate travelers or people living in rural locations where charging infrastructure is minimal. Also, a maximum speed of 100 km/h limits its application for highway cruising or high-speed driving.
Cons in Pricing
Being from a lesser-known company and a relatively new model, its resale value remains uncertain in the long run within the Nepalese market. Although reliable, the replacement cost of the Lithium Iron Phosphate battery might be on the higher side once it has completed its lifecycle.
As the Brumby EV is compact and has a modest range, it is most suited for city driving; hence, this reduces its versatility for all kinds of purposes.
Since it is a relatively new entry into the Nepalese market, the reliability and durability of the BAW Brumby are yet to be seen in Nepali conditions.
