Similarly, it requires no fuel (petrol or diesel) and runs sustainably through electricity. This is a huge advantage as fuel prices are on the rising trend.

Best-Selling Electric Cars in Nepal
Thee Go E8
Thee Go is a Nepalese project to build zero-emission vehicles. It is also a Nepali word meaning sustainable future. Thee Go’s E8 is the most affordable electric car currently available in the Nepalese market. Its price ranges from 19 lakhs to 24 lakhs. Now, this EV is geared towards city people, who want to cruise around the city periphery without spending money on fuel, and it also aims to protect the city from pollution.
It comes packed with a 14.8 kWh battery, which is on the smaller side compared to other electric cars. However, due to its lower battery size, its charging time is reduced to under 5 hours. On full charge, the E8 has a range of 150 km. It comes with an impressive ground clearance of 160mm and consumes 1.1 Rs. per km of travel.
Tata Nexon EV
Tata Nexon is a compact SUV with stylish looks which is made by Tata Motors. It comes with a 30.2 kWh battery which charges from 0 to 80 within an hour with the rapid charger. However, with a standard charger, it will take almost 9 hours. This electric SUV offers 312 km of mileage after a full charge. In our test drive, the Nexon EV provided a range of 250 km on average, but using AC and different features will certainly shorten the battery life than advertised by the company.
In addition to a good mileage, the Nexon EV comes packed with dual airbags, a keyless entry system, reverse cameras, connectivity options including the Apple CarPlay, and a sunroof. Moreover, there is also 350L of boot space for carrying goods. The electric SUV costs around Rs. 36-40 lakhs in Nepal.
BYD E6
This electric vehicle carries a unique slogan- Build your dream! The all-new E6 variant is the latest offering from the company. It comes with a large 71.7 kWh battery with a range of 522 km. It has an AC synchronous motor that generates 70KW of power and 180Nm of torque. Looking at the BYD E6’s decent mileage, we can suggest this electric vehicle to be a sweet spot for those who want to travel long distances without worrying about charging.
Although there are no public charging spots currently in Nepal, this car can be charged at home with fast charging cable. It takes 1.5 hours to fully charge. This car has a large boot space of 580 liters.
The new BYD e6 is priced at Rs. 57.50 lakhs in the Nepali market.
Hyundai IONIQ
IONIQ electric car is perhaps the most loved EV in the Nepalese market due to its best value for money proposition. It is a modern SUV with off-roading capabilities. In terms of safety, it carries a total of 7 airbags which provides a safe journey to all its passengers. It has a PMSM engine that generates 100KW of power and 295Nm of torque.
The 38.3kWh battery has a range of 311 km on a full charge, which is sufficient for within city travel. To enable the long-distance journey, it comes with a DC fast charger capable of charging from 0 to 80 percent within 55 minutes. So, within a short lunch break, the car will be ready for the next 300 km.

Tesla Model S
Tesla is a well-known brand when it comes to electric vehicles. After a long wait, Tesla’s Model S has recently entered the Nepalese EV market. It is possibly the best electric car you can get anywhere in the world, not just in Nepal. It is packed with 18650 batteries, which gives a range of 575 km with a full charge. This is almost double the range compared to most electric vehicles we find in Nepal.
The vehicle charges within 30 minutes with the 150kW supercharger and takes 6 hours at the home charger with 22kW of power. And if anyone is in a real hurry, it can also charge at 250kW. Its electric motors can generate 670 hp, allowing it to reach 60mph in just 3.1 seconds.
