Ford Motors names its upcoming all-electric pickup truck as F-150 Lightning. This name was used by the auto giant back in the 1990s and early 2000s for its street performance trucks.

The carmaker has just released this name on Monday while the planning for its official unveiling is going to happen on May 19, 9:30p.m. EDT. The launch will be held at Ford’s headquarter in Dearbon, Michigan while it will be broadcasted across various social media platforms as well as popular public spaces such as Times Square, New York.

The official powertrain, range, or any other specs of the F-150 Lightning hasn’t been unveiled yet. Scratching out the few details of the electric truck from various sources, we have come to know that this one will be featuring dual-motor configurations, mobile power generation, driver-assist feature and so on.

Like other premium electric pickups such as the lately unveiled 2024 Hummer EV, this one will adopt high-tech offerings along with various connected car services.

Besides this, the American carmaker has also invested more than $500 million into its other electric truck startup Rivian. In addition, it has also collaborated with the top German Automaker Volkswagen to use its battery tech in electric cars slated for the European auto market in the future.
