Maruti Suzuki has been sitting on the throne of the best-selling car brand in the Indian market for decades now. Although the South-Korean car maker is seen giving stiff competition to the Indian carmaker, Maruti Suzuki hasn’t lost its grip.
The Maruti Suzuki is India’s Most Selling Car Brand.
After Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai Motors is the second-best car seller in the country. And like its competitive friend, Hyundai Motors also hasn’t lost its second position in India for decades now.
However, in the month of May 2022, another tough Indian competitor- Tata Motors jumped into the second position with a slender margin over Hyundai Motors.
With this stiff competition between them, we might witness a tough battle for the position of second in FY22.
Tata Car Sales in India VS Hyundai Car Sales in India
In the year 2018, Tata Motors sold over 3.13 lakh cars less than Hyundai Motors. However, if we glance at the latest scenario, the carmaker’s sales have surged down to 1.08 lakhs lesser than Tata Motors.
From acquiring just a 6.85% market share in FY 2019, Hyundai raised its share to 12.4% in FY22 remaining among the Top 5 Best-Sellers in the country.
Avik Chattopadhyay, an automotive industry consultant, pointed out two reasons for the scenario. “The first is an ever-increasing acceptability of the Tata badge as a result of its product styling, quality, performance, and after-sales. The success of the Nexon EV has been a major image booster. The entire experience of owning a Tata Vehicle has vastly improved over the last 3 years.”
“The second is that Tata Motors navigated the semiconductor crisis better than Hyundai India did. The ordering and procurement efficiency has allowed Tata to produce more. A Hyundai in India is bound more by what HQ in Korea mandates and therefore can end up losing out for a period of time,” he said.
On the other hand, in the FY that ended on March 31, the market share of Hyundai was at an 8-year low at 15.7%,
However, factors such as loss of production on global sales, the crisis of semiconductors, and more are also analyzed to be the chief reason behind the surge in sales.
Tata-Hyundai War
Where Hyundai’s popular car in the hatchback segment- the Hyundai Elite i20 has targeted entry-level segment lovers. On the other hand, Tata Altroz gives elite competition to it.
If we grasp a quick focus on the sales of these top models in consecutive years, the Tata Altroz hatchback has cleverly mastered the sales game with time.
