Indian Government New Mandatory Dual-Airbag Rule- Hyundai Santro, Renault Kwid and more

Highlights

  • The new rule is mandatory for all new models starting April 1st
  • Ministry of Road Transport and Highway announced this rule
  • The new safety rule will result in a price hike of these models

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways India has recently made a new amendment to the safety norms for all cars in the country. According to the new rule, it is now mandatory to equip dual-airbags as standard in all four-wheelers (cars to be exact). Therefore, this will result in carmakers including dual-airbags even for entry-level cars.

With the new safety standard rule, we will now be discerning the upcoming models of entry-level cars such as Maruti WagonR, S-Presso, Alto, Hyundai i10 with dual-airbags as a safety standard. Currently, this safety feature is only available for the top variants of these cars.

Moreover, with this new change in mandatory safety features, we will acknowledge price hikes in these entry-level models. Probably, an increase of Rs. 10,000/- to Rs. 15,000/- could be expected in these models.

Well, this is, in fact, a good initiative made by the Indian government to prevent accidents on the roads while keeping the lives of the riders safe too.
