Is Tesla Cybertruck officially launching this year- Here's what we know so far

The Cybertruck was a major deal when Tesla first revealed it in late 2019. Even people who do not follow the automotive industry heard about the bizarre-looking EV because of its divisive and contentious design. Premium specifications, bulletproof glass (kind of), and limitless potential are all included in the radical vehicle.

Everyone still has a lot of questions, even though it has been more than three years. Tesla first put off the manufacture of the Cybertruck until later in 2022 and then again, at some point in 2023. Tesla recently revealed that the Cybertruck would come with several new features when it is finally introduced, and the pre-order website no longer provides pricing information.

Where does it leave us, the millions of pre-orderers? Here is all we currently know about the Cybertruck, including all of its features, an estimated price, and a release date.

Overview (Release date)

Now that 2022 is ending, we know that Cybertruck manufacturing will begin in the middle of 2023 and that Tesla is formally in the "tooling" stage. To produce the Cybertruck at its new Gigafactory in Texas, the corporation is hard at work building the equipment, machinery, and production lines.

At the introduction ceremony, Tesla stated that it will deploy the Cybertruck for the dual-motor AWD variant in late 2021. Elon Musk did, however, announce that the car wouldn't be ready until late 2022 in August 2021. A month later, the business said that volume manufacturing would ideally start in 2023.

Tesla, however, formally decided to postpone the Cybertruck until 2023 January 26th, 2021. Since then, the business has claimed that it has "locked" the design, established a mid-2023 manufacturing start date, and stated that orders should begin shipping to customers in the third or fourth quarter of 2023.

While Tesla develops the necessary tooling for the vehicle's production, we've even witnessed a Cybertruck body being assembled on a production line. As you can see from the official Tesla Cybertruck pre-order page, "You will be able to finalize your setup as production nears." This used to say 2022, however, as of right now, no date is displayed at all. A 2023 arrival is what we're hoping for.

We are unable to give a timeline or precise date at this time. What we can say is that, if all goes as planned, Tesla hopes to begin fulfilling the first dual and tri-motor pre-orders sometime in late 2023. However, there are too many unknowns and variables to be able to say for sure.

Also, a hefty "if," given that Tesla consistently misses deadlines for all of its models. If Tesla can continue on its current course and start manufacturing Cybertruck next summer, it will be a limited deployment. In most cases, orders won't be delivered until around 2024.

The Cybertruck is expected to be out of stock or not on the lot at Tesla stores until 2024 because more than a million customers have reserved the electric truck.

What is the cost of the Tesla Cybertruck?

Even though Tesla provides a variety of settings, the priciest model is always the one to arrive first. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, stated that the new Cybertruck's beginning price, before incentives, would be $39,900 at the time of its initial introduction in 2019. This made it sound reasonably priced.

We wonder if that sub-$40,000 threshold will ever be an option for Tesla's truck after the electric carmaker raised the price of practically every vehicle it sells over the past 18 months. As an illustration, the base Model 3 now starts at $46,990 instead of the previous $36,990 price at the beginning of 2021.

Additionally, Musk promised a $35,000 beginning price when he unveiled the Model 3, but that pricing was exceedingly hard to obtain and only offered for a very little time. Therefore, we might anticipate a comparable increase in Cybertruck's beginning price.

The situation was made worse by the fact that the corporation altered the pre-order website in late 2021 and deleted any references to the features or the cost, which raises the possibility of a price adjustment.

In the current state of affairs, Tesla may offer a base model starting at $39,900, as well as two additional AWD variants with a tri or quad motor configuration that start at $49,900 and $69,900, but that's highly unlikely given what we've seen over the past two years.

Additionally, Tesla stated that the Cybertruck would follow other EVs on the market and be available with a quad motor option, 4-wheel steering, crab walk, and other features.

Sadly, adding those features might increase the Tesla Cybertruck's cost before it is released, whenever that may be. Elon Musk commented on the Cybertruck's difficulty being developed at a cost that consumers can pay during a recent Tesla earnings call. We will need to wait and watch for the time being.

Tesla Cybertruck Specs and Estimated Range

We're not completely sure what to anticipate with all the changes in recent years, not to mention the quick development of EV technology. Even if we are aware of what Tesla revealed more than three years ago, a lot has changed and will continue to change before this car ultimately hits the roads. Here are the original figures and specifications provided by Tesla.

  • For $39,900, a single motor RWD vehicle can travel 250 miles, pull 7,500 pounds, and accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 6.5 seconds.
  • Dual motor AWD: 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds, 10,000+ lbs. of towing capacity, over a 300-mile range, and $49,900
  • Tri-motor AWD: 0-60 mph in under 2.9 seconds, 14,000+ lb. towing capacity, and over the 500-mile range for $69,900
  • Unknown details, 4-wheel steering, crab walk, presumably better range, towing, and faster speeds are all characteristics of quad motor AWD.

Again, Tesla only revealed the quad motor system in December 2021, so we're not quite sure what to anticipate from it. However, as soon as we learn more, we'll update this piece. At the very least, we can aim for a range of between 300 and 500 miles.

Ultra-Fast Charging (1MW)

The Cybertruck's ultra-rapid 1-megawatt charging speed is arguably one of its most fascinating new features. Elon Musk stated that the Cybertruck would have a 1MW charging capacity, just like the Tesla Semi, at a Tesla electric semi event in December 2022.

However, we doubt that the Cybertruck will be able to take 1,000kW charging rates; instead, it will make use of the same modifications and expansions to the charging network.

According to the majority of sources, Tesla's forthcoming level 4 Supercharging stations would be 1MW capable and raise the maximum speed limit for cars like the Cybertruck (or existing Teslas) from 250kW to 350–400kW.

In either case, the Tesla Cybertruck may be capable of handling some of the quickest charging rates of any electric truck on the market when it debuts later in 2023.

Tesla Cybertruck’s Possible Sizes

The Tesla Cybertruck is enormous, as we are all aware. It is easy to discern a size advantage when compared to the F-150, the most popular vehicle in the country. Potential purchasers may struggle to fit it in garages, which is an issue.

Without a considerable redesign of the overall design, the huge size might also render it illegal for use on European roads. Tesla will reportedly offer the Cybertruck in two distinct sizes, according to many recent sources. A notion that even Elon Musk strongly suggested on Twitter around the year 2020.

Additionally, it makes sense to provide it in the United States as well, even though Musk might only be referring to a scaled-down Cybertruck for European markets. especially in light of the positively welcomed compact Ford Maverick vehicle.

It's important to note that the now-final design is a little bit less substantial than the version displayed on stage, which suggests that there might just be one model available.

Best Features

It can be difficult to pinpoint exactly what we'll get from the Cybertruck because there are so many intriguing features or concepts out there. The Cyberquad ATV or children's Cyberquad, which will fit in the rear, as well as the claimed 0-60 acceleration in 2.8 seconds and bullet-proof windows, are all included.

There are no color options available; we only receive the 300 series stainless steel design in its raw, unfinished, bare, and unpainted state. Later, buyers will have the option of wrapping it in any color, pattern, or texture they like. So, if you ask us, that is a feature.

A matte black Cybertruck has been pictured on Reddit, and it appears to be much more impressive than the silver one. The 6.5-ft bed features the same stainless-steel construction and offers users more room than a conventional truck because the wheel wells are not visible from the bed.

There are ports for charging devices with 120 and 220 volts within the bed, as well as an air compressor and a sliding tonneau cover to keep items contained. Even the possibility that the sliding cover could serve as an optional solar panel to assist extend the range on a sunny day has been mentioned.

The roof of the Cybertruck is made of Armor Glass and is completely transparent. On any other car, a transparent roof is typically referred to as a panoramic sunroof, but since this is a Tesla and the glass is bulletproof, it'll surely earn a fancy moniker.

In case you missed it, the truck's bed will be completely enclosed by the tonneau cover, from the roof to the tailgate. This implies that in some cases, drivers won't be able to utilize the rearview mirror. Tesla, however, has stated that the truck would have digital mirrors because of the number of cameras.

In addition to the lengthy LED strip for the headlights, Tesla even includes a built-in light bar that can be added as an option and extends above the windshield, providing users with even more illumination. Therefore, all of you Jeep, Ford, and Toyota Tacoma owners won't even need to purchase a Baja Design lightbar for your Cybertruck any longer.

In addition to the anticipated HD radar sensors, the Cybertruck should include an updated and enhanced FSD (Full Self-Driving) software kit with modifications tailored for a truck. The software also manages the long-travel air suspension, pitch, and roll sensor displays, backup camera modes for towing a trailer, crab walking, 4-wheel steering, and many more features.

Oh, and the door knobs are also missing. The outside would be redesigned, the handles would be removed, and side mirrors would be added, according to CEO Elon Musk at first. Now that we are aware of it, we may assume that the Cybertruck will recognize you as you approach and prompt the door to open.

Cybertruck's position in terms of self-driving capabilities shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. "Autopilot"—not to be confused with level 5 self-driving—will be available on every Cybertruck model.

Like other Tesla models, you may also purchase the full self-driving option for an additional $15,000 (formerly $7,000, then $12k), albeit that feature isn't yet fully functional. Since circumstances are always shifting, we'll have to wait till this cyberpunk truck shows up before making more comments.

Just keep in mind that since it's a Cybertruck, it presumably has almost unlimited capabilities. Furthermore, a ton of third-party alternatives and accessories are to be expected, such as this incredible-looking concept Cybertruck camper.

Verdict

As a quick final note, we'd like to mention a few potential accessories. The Cybertruck's manufacturing location should then be discussed, along with some timeline estimates. People will want to use it to perform pickup truck tasks because it is a crazy cool truck.

Tesla has also discussed a camper and trailer arrangement that it will provide later, though no formal accessories will be available until the truck does. We may anticipate some of these amenities to come after the vehicle, which is the top priority.

One is a real trailer, and the other is an overland Cybertruck arrangement with a roof-top tent, an integrated kitchen, and a few other stuff on a swing-out tailgate. Additionally, the Cyberquad ATV will debut around the same time as the Cybertruck, according to the business.

At some point, Tesla's newest Gigafactory in Texas will begin producing Cybertrucks. However, for now, we're all left waiting breathlessly for its arrival. As a result, if everything goes according to plan, initial deliveries for individuals who made the first pre-order should happen in late 2023 or early 2024, with additional orders eventually being filled as time passes.
