Smartphones have been slowly growing in size for years to the point where using one hand to operate one is difficult. The greatest cameras, largest batteries and most storage space are reserved for the 3-inch-wide hand-buster phones in Apple's Max and Samsung's Ultra versions, respectively.
However, it is still feasible to acquire nice, compact phones that fit in your hand, have all the functionality you need, and are available at reasonable prices. As the market has grown, producers have surpassed the symbolic benchmark of a 6-inch screen for a small smartphone.
As a result, our collection includes gadgets with 6.1-inch panels, which are currently also thought of as small sizes. Foldable cell phones are also included in our guide because they offer still another choice for a compact design.
These are the top compact phones we've evaluated in light of that. We have you covered whether you're searching for Apple or Android.
iPhone 13 Mini
Despite concerns that the format would be discontinued, Apple revealed the iPhone 13 small as a replacement for the iPhone 12 mini. We continue to use a virtually identical, more compact, and smaller version of the iPhone 13.
Even though it has a 5.4-inch screen that is larger than the iPhone SE 2020s, the 13 mini nonetheless manages to be smaller because of its sharper corners. Even though the phone has become slightly thicker, it still slides easily into a pocket and is still comfortable to use with one hand.
It is identical in every way to the larger iPhone 13, which it replaces. As a result, we are entitled to a larger battery and the incredibly strong Bionic A15 processor.
And we have to acknowledge that the latter works fantastically given that we receive an additional one hour and thirty minutes of autonomy on a charge. In essence, this implies that the iPhone 13 mini can now go an entire day without recharging.
The iPhone 12 Pro's camera sensors are added to the phone, greatly enhancing the low-light performance. So, with this model, Apple addresses a few minor issues from the previous generation and firmly establishes the iPhone 13 mini as the best little smartphone.
The concept of a "mini" model was not updated by Apple with the release of the iPhone 14; hence this is the most recent "mini" model from the firm.

Samsung Galaxy S22
One of the most eagerly anticipated smartphones of 2022 was the Galaxy S22. Although it has the least amount of power available in the Samsung Galaxy S lineup, the S22 is still a high-end product.
The 6.1-inch screen of the handset essentially positions it in the current generation of small smartphones. The format and material choice are two elements that help deliver excellent ergonomics. As is customary for Samsung, the Full HD AMOLED screen operates superbly.
The variable refresh rate of the screen at 120 Hz and the precise standard solutions will improve the visual quality of the games and movies. Despite having one of the nicest designs, the smartphone's performance might use some work.
The model offered in numerous locations with the Exynos 2200 chip operates slowly when compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip. It must be said that the 3,700 mAh battery is not excellent, which is again another drawback that tiny smartphones typically have.
The device's camera section includes three sensors and is incredibly flexible. It performs at a very high level. To acquire perfect images, you can still experiment with a few settings.
At $799, this little smartphone is not the most inexpensive. However, thanks to Samsung's excellence, you can have a superbly portable smartphone.

Asus Zenfone 9
It's rare to find high-end cell phones that are getting smaller. However, Asus persisted, and the Zenfone 9 is a superb illustration of this. It is a flagship product in a format that is getting harder to find in tiny sizes.
It has a fantastic 5.9-inch AMOLED screen. Despite being rather small, this one can display in Full HD +. A variable refresh rate enhances everything indicated below. It changes between 120Hz and 60Hz depending on how you use it to give you the greatest experience.
The phone is very powerful despite its small size. Simply told, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor. The configuration is finished with eight gigabytes of RAM. To give an outstanding game performance, it is sufficient.
Finally, this compact smartphone provides a very high level of autonomy. The 4,300 mAh battery in the Zenfone 9 offers outstanding endurance; it can easily last two days. With the bonus of a charge, you are entitled to one of the nicest experiences imaginable in an hour and a half.
The one negative aspect of an otherwise excellent general assessment is the Asus Zenfone 9's camera quality. At this price, it ought to shine more, but it is happy with a back dual sensor that is only fair.

Google Pixel 6a
The Pixel 6a, a more affordable and compact version of the Pixel 6 series, is performing well for Google. Starting with its lightweight and enjoyable use, the new range addition has many advantages that stand out.
Although we hate the 60 Hz refresh rate cap, the stunning 6.1-inch OLED panel is tuned to perfection. With blatantly flawless software integration, Google's new phone fulfills all of your requests thanks to its Tensor chip, the champion of artificial intelligence (Android 12 upgradable to Android 13).
It excels at shooting images over all else. It is completely unmatched in its category for just $449. It works well for photographing people, at night, and moving targets. Although the smartphone has a respectable battery life, we regret that the charging speed is only 18W.
If buyers keep an eye out for various price reductions, the Pixel 6a is without a doubt a solid choice for people seeking a compact, stylish, and durable smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
Given its 6.7-inch size, one might wonder why the Galaxy Z Flip 3 was included. Because it is just half as big when folded, the Z Flip 4 is exceptionally compact phone. Its compact size and lightweight both add to the "small object" illusion. Tossing it into a pocket is easy.
Naturally, Samsung has paid attention to the complaints voiced about the Z Flip 3 and has tried to remedy them in this updated model. The battery life, which has improved from 7 to 11 hours, is a prime example of this.
To be clear, it doesn't provide anything new, but it does get more realistic regularly. It's a good idea to choose the most recent Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC because it provides good power without overheating. How about that notorious folding screen?
This 22:9, 120 Hz adaptable panel is of extremely good quality. To improve this aspect, Samsung still needs to make some improvements. Although the phone's camera appears to be functioning fairly well, the Galaxy S22 still outperforms it.
Because it offers a big screen in a tiny package, the Z Flip 4 is a smartphone that sticks out. Despite its shortcomings, it's a generally enjoyable experience.
