Triumph Motorcycles Ltd. is the largest UK- owned motorcycle manufacturer, established in 1983. The company was founded by John Bloor.
History of Triumph Motorcycles
The motorcycle company was first owned by Triumph Engineering back in 1902, which was later bought by Bloor and he owned the name and manufacturing rights of the company with the Official Receiver. This implies that the real origin of Triumph motorcycles was carried back in 1902.
The UK-based motorcycle brand started working on its machines after visiting the Japanese manufacturing facilities back then. In 1987, Triumph completed its first-ever motorcycle.
The rise for the motorcycle was quick back in 2000 when owner Bloor invested around £70 million and £100 million into brand manufacturing and marketing.
Brand’s Tragic Incident...
Back in March 2002, Triumph motorcycles were all set to celebrate its 100th anniversary as a bike maker. However, a tragic incident hit the brand’s premises where half of the Triumphs’ factories and rear facility, stores were destroyed by fire. Strongly, with sheer hope, the brand started rebuilding its facility, finished the works, and started back production in September same year.
In May 2002, Triumph started its new construction facility in Chonburi, Thailand which looked after various parts used in the motorcycle. Seemingly, in 2006 a new factory was established by Prince Andrew, Duke of York. Later, the facility was refined with more machinery and equipment, making its manufacturing capacity over 130,000 motorcycles.
The UK-owned company Triumph motorcycles Thailand employs more than 1000 team members.
Triumph Motorcycles’ CEO
In 2011, Nick Bloor (John Bloor’s son) became the CEO of Triumph Motorcycle. After this, the British-owned motorcycle company also inaugurated a visitor center worth £4 million that held a long list collection of Triumph bikes and memorabilia.
Moreover, recently in 2020, Triumph jumped into the bike-bike-making game with the introduction of Tiger 1200 and Speed Triple production. These bikes were manufactured on large scale at the Thailand-based Triumph facility. The UK factory only looks after the Custom Triumph factory builds and the prototypes. The R&D work for the motorcycle brand is carried out at the UK facility while the company holds additional production staff.
