Upcoming SUVs in India [2022-23]
Maruti YGF / Toyota D22
Maruti in collaboration with Toyota is working on a new compact SUV targeted at the Indian market. As per reports, this new SUV from the brand is expected to hit the roads by the end of 2022. Coming on to the likings, the SUV is expected to match the likes of Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and the MG Astor.
Moreover, the new Toyota D22/Maruti YGF (nameplate not confirmed) will be based on Toyota’s TNGA-B platform. This is the same platform, we have already witnessed in the global Toyota Corolla Cross
Maruti Suzuki Jimny
Maruti Suzuki's much-awaited model- Jimny is also launching next year in India. The carmaker is likely to equip a 5 door version of Jimny for the Indian market.
In terms of the wheelbase and length, the 5-door version is going to be 300mm longer than the 3-door version. The Jimny-5 door will now adopt a length of 3850mm, 1645mm width, and 1730mm height followed by 2550mm of wheelbase. Here are the revealed details of the Jimny-5 door SUV.
Similarly, as for the engine, the car will be getting a 1.5L Petrol engine churning out a power of 102PS.
Honda Compact SUV
Japanese carmaker- Honda is also planning on launching a new compact SUV in the Indian market. This Honda SUV will be based on its own City sedan platform. In addition, the SUV is also likely to boast the same engine unit used in the City.
If confirmed, the new Honda Compact SUV will boast a 1.5L i-VTEC petrol engine that churns out a peak power of 121bhp alongside 145Nm of peak torque. As for the transmission, there is a 6-speed manual as well as a CVT transmission available.
As per reports, the SUV might also feature an option for the hybrid powertrain. We have already witnessed this option in the new Honda City e: HEV as well.
Skoda Compact SUV
Czech carmaker Skoda has also confirmed the launch of a new compact SUV for the Indian market. As per the firm’s CEO Thomas Schaefer, it is confirmed that the SUV will be based on the MQB A0 IN platform.
This one will be a part of the brand’s new India 2.0 revival project. While not speaking much of the SUV’s expectations, the brand head has confirmed that the new Skoda compact SUV will also remain a potential target for International consumers.
