Volkswagen has recently unveiled its new Modular Electric Drive Matrix (MEB) small platform at the Munich Motor show. This platform is designed by the firm, particularly for the small car segment.

About MEB small platform

The new MEB small platform gets a wheelbase of 2659mm while it will come under production usage for future Volkswagen electric cars that are affordable like the ID electric cars.

The German automaker had unveiled its new affordable EV concept ID.LIFE at the event and it is likely to be called ID.1. This will be the first electric car coming from VW Group that will be based on the MEB small platform.

What differs the MEB platform from MEB small?

The very first difference between the two is that the MEB small only comes with Front Wheel Drive (FWD) system while the latter gets both Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) and All-Wheel Drive (AWD) system as well. This is also the primary reason behind the platform’s affordability.

The new ID.LIFE Concept by VW is likely to boast a 62kWh battery. This battery unit is expected to offer a range of 400k on the WLTP cycle. Likewise, the concept model boasts a single front-mounted motor delivering a peak power of 231bhp alongside a peak torque of 290Nm.

The firm claims the ID.LIFE concept to attain a speed of 0-100km/h within just 7 seconds. Similarly, it is also going to support DC Fast Charging that allows it to charge up to 40% is as low as 10 mins.
