The scooter is powered by a BS6-compliant 125cc single-cylinder engine with Hybrid Power and a fuel-injection system. This unit delivers a power of 8bhp at 6500rpm alongside a peak torque of 10.3Nm at 5000rpm.

The braking duties of the Yamaha Ray ZR are handled by UBS brakes on both ends.
