1. Frequent Engine Start
When vehicles are kept still for a long period of time, the chance of full battery drainage is very high. Most of the motorcycles these days lack kick starter so it is important to note if your bike’s battery is draining by itself. Therefore, always make a habit of starting your motorcycle/scooter every day at least for 3-5 minutes to eradicate this possible problem. Otherwise, you might have to end up buying a new battery.
(Note: If possible disconnect all the bike battery with other electricals from the source if you are someone who can't look after your vehicle every day, for instance, if you have moved out of town or so on. )
2. Brakes, Tire Pressure, and Movement
If possible ride your bike around 100-200m distance every alternative day near your premises (concerning safety). And in case if it's not possible, gently move your vehicle 2-5m distance in, to and fro motion applying both front and rear brakes. This prevents the brakes from jamming and also helps in the removal of pressure from one part of the tire to another, eliminating the chances of tire flattening.
On the other hand, when the time is appropriate, take your motorcycle/scooter to a nearby mechanic and monitor the tire pressure. In case of need, fill air pressure to the appropriate limit. And if these arrangements can be made at home, then it will be a win-win situation for you.
3. Make use of double-stand
It is crucial to use a center stand especially when you are not using your motorcycle for a longer period of time like this. Lifting the tyres from the ground also helps to avoid possible flat spots due to pressure for a longer time.
4. Use a cover and park under a shade
Always use a parking cover to protect your motorcycle from dust and water while also ensure that it is parked under a shade away from direct sunlight.
5. Protect Yourself
And at last, but not the least, protect yourself whenever stepping outside the house. Take proper safety measures while exposing outside. Cover your eyes, nose, and mouth, wear gloves, full sleeve shirts, and masks while moving out. And always wash your hands for 20 seconds whenever touching anything sensitive.
Therefore, first, make sure that you are safe before safeguarding your vehicle.
(Bonus Tip: Although you don't get to ride your bike/scooter outdoors during the lockdown period, make a habit to clean your vehicle and keep it up to date. Also, ensure to clean those tight and tricky parts on the bike. And most importantly, always use the right shampoo/soap while cleaning it.)
