Our verdict
Looking at the specs side by side, I do have mixed feelings here. For most of the part, Galaxy A72 seems exactly like the Galaxy A71 but in a more stylish 2021 body. Yes, there are upgrades but, the upgrades don’t feel like the smartphones are more than a year apart from each other.
If you are to list out the upgrades, then;
- 90Hz refresh rate compared to 60Hz
- 5000mAh battery compared to 4500mAh
- Better camera system and software
- IP67 dust/water resistance
- Dolby Atmos Stereo Speaker
- Improved software experience
- Upgrade to Snapdragon 720G from Snapdragon 730G
- More premium looking design
Yes, the Galaxy A72 is an upgrade to A71 as you get all the above-mentioned upgrades and prolonged security updates. The upgrades are there but, Samsung could have done much more here. Like a higher 120Hz refresh rate, more upgraded processor, faster charging than just 25 watts, and much more. If you look at the competition, brands like Xiaomi, Oppo, Poco, and many others provide similar or even higher specifications at a much lower price.
Samsung does bring that brand value, years of trust, and that premium feels to their smartphone but, to actively compete in this particular price segment of the market, Samsung has to offer more.
