Introduction

Samsung’s Galaxy S-series is one of the most liked smartphone series in the world. So, it’s obvious that the upcoming S-series smartphones already have a ton of rumors and speculation going around. The next big in line for Samsung is the  Galaxy S23-series. It will be the successor of this year’s Galaxy S22-series and is expected to arrive in early 2023.

Previously, we’ve covered many rumors about the possible flagship model of the series, the Galaxy S23 Ultra. Now, there’s a hot take from the industry insider on the likely chipset that will come with the Samsung Galaxy S23 series. So in this post, we’ll cover the recent Samsung Galaxy S23 Series rumor that has appeared online.

Samsung Galaxy S23 Series Rumor

Qualcomm SoC to Solely Power the S23 Series

If you have followed Samsung’s Galaxy S-series, you’ll know that the company offers its flagship in two variants. One of the variants uses the Qualcomm chipset, while the other comes with Samsung’s in-house Exynos chipset. However, the upcoming Galaxy S23 series will likely break this long-running trend.

According to a tweet from a well-known analyst, Ming-Chi-Kuo, the Galaxy S23 Series will come exclusively with a Qualcomm chipset. Yes, the tweet hints that Samsung will drop the Exynos chipset and only use Qualcomm's next-gen SM8550 chip. To compare, just 70% of this year’s Galaxy S22 series use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC.

Kuo believes that SM8550 (built on TSMC’s 4nm process) will have obvious advantages over Exynos 2300 (built on Samsung’s 4nm process). He adds that the SM8550 is optimized for TSMC's design rule and will have the better computing power and power efficiency, which Exynos 2300 can't compete with. Hence, we might see the whole Galaxy S23 series with just Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip.

The Qualcomm SM8550, likely to be called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, is expected to arrive in November. Kuo also predicts that the chip is likely to gain more market share in the high-end Android market in 2023.

Change in Design?

  • The Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23+ will resemble the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ quite a bit, claims Ice Universe. The design is referred to as "the same," and the mechanical specifications are also reasonably comparable.
  • According to this speculation, the battery, display, and camera sensors won't change from the previous model. According to reports, the processor's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip will be the only significant update.
  • The source claims that the width of the central portion of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra's frame will be increased, which will compel the curved display to be slightly less wavy. As it is claimed that Samsung will cram as much as possible into the Galaxy S23 Ultra, including a new Qualcomm 3D Sonic Max ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader and, perhaps, UFS 4.0 storage, this might be owing to practical considerations. Similar to Apple with its iPhones, Samsung may have to put up with complaints from those who don't see significant generational design changes, but if the Korean corporation believes the S22 Ultra was nearly ideal, it will stick with the same for its sequel and focus more on innovation.
  • The significant alterations will be on the inside, and they will look just like their admired S22 forebears.
  • The same screen, same sensors, same camera, and even the battery capacity could stay the same, according to the source. However, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chip should be quite a selling factor for the range when taken into account on its own.

Other Possible Specifications

  • 6.81-inch Dynamic AMOLED display with  HDR10+, 120 Hz refresh rate, and Gorilla Glass Victus protection
  • Next-gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor built on TSMC’s 4nm process
  • Up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage
  • 200 MP ISOCELL HP1 primary sensor on a quad rear camera setup
  • 32MP front-facing camera for the S23 Ultra and 12MP for the S23 and S23 Plus
