Qualcomm has unveiled its latest flagship chip for Android phones named Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The new chipset is a successor of the Snapdragon 888 and the first to bear Qualcomm’s new naming scheme. This SoC focuses on improvements in six major areas - 5G connectivity, AI, gaming, camera sensor, audio, and security.
Here, we will be talking about the specifications and ability of this new 5G chipset from Qualcomm.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Overview
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is built using a 4nm process and is the first chip from Qualcomm to feature the latest Armv9 architecture. It is powered by a single Cortex-X2 CPU core clocked at 3GHz, two big Cortex-A710 cores at 2.5GHz, and four energy-efficient Cortex-A510 cores at 1.8GHz. According to Qualcomm, the new chip brings a 20% performance improvement and 30% power saving compared to the CPU of Snapdragon 888.
Moving on to GPU, the new Adreno GPU here offers 30% faster graphics rendering and 25% better power efficiency. There’s also a new Adreno Frame Motion engine, which can double the frame rate without using any additional power or keep the same frame while reducing power consumption. The company claims that the chip has integrated a Variable Rate Shading Pro feature to provide a desktop-level volumetric rendering to deliver realistic fog, smoke, and particle effects.
The other addition to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is the 18-bit image signal processor (ISP) claimed to provide an improved dynamic range, color, and speeds. It supports 8K HDR video recording in HDR10+ format along with a new Bokeh Engine that brings Portrait Mode-style shots to video. Further, the Mega Low Light Mode snaps 30 images and merges the best parts into one shot for brighter, clearer, more colorful photos after dark.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 supports LPDDR5 RAM with a frequency of up to 3200MHz and a density of up to 16GB. It also supports up to 4K and QHD+ displays with up to 144Hz refresh rate. For connectivity, the chipset comes with Snapdragon X65 Modem with support for up to 10Gbps speeds and the latest 3GPP Release 16 specification. There's also a Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Mobile Connectivity System that brings wireless connectivity with up to 3.6Gbps speeds over Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E standards.
