The year 2021 was pretty tough for smartphone companies with the ongoing pandemic and component shortage. But still, big companies like Samsung managed to manufacture millions of its Galaxy smartphones.

According to a report of The Elec, Samsung was able to manufacture around 300 million Galaxy smartphones in 2021. The Korean tech giants made about 238.88 million smartphones by themselves, while over 60 million units were manufactured by ODMs like Wintech and Huaqin.

Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs) like Wintech and Huaqin manufacture some of the budget Galaxy smartphones for Samsung. Also, the numbers are expected to rise significantly in the year 2022, as the reports claim that Wingtech has already bagged an order for 40 million Galaxy smartphones from Samsung.

Going back to 2021, Samsung was able to ship only mid-20 million units of its flagship Galaxy S21 series in a whole year. Usually, the flagship Galaxy S series accounts for 35-40 million units in shipments per year for Samsung. This makes the Galaxy S21 series the worst-selling Galaxy S series smartphone in Samsung’s history.

Samsung’s lower to mid-range Galaxy A, Galaxy M, and Galaxy F series smartphones accounted for the majority of sales. Its premium foldables, Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 crossed over a million sales in South Korea alone. In total, Samsung only shipped around late-200 million units of Galaxy smartphones in 2021.

The number is quite not what the company expected it to be. Samsung aimed to ship 300 million units in 2021, which could have been possible if the company didn’t face production problems due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Vietnam, the global chip shortage, and low sales of the Galaxy S21 series.
