Honor, the company that spun out from Huawei 18 months ago, is now the leading smartphone maker in Mainland China. The company managed to capture a 20% market share in its homeland, shipping 15.0 million units with stellar growth of 205%. Honor 60 series and X30 series were the major boosters that helped the company grow. Out of all the Chinese vendors, Honor was the only OEM to record growth, despite the ongoing COVID lockdowns in the region and component shortages.
According to a recent report from Canalys, Smartphone shipment fell by 18% year on year in China, reaching 75.6 million units in Q1 2022. The outbreak of the Omicron COVID-19 variant and strict lockdowns in major cities affected the Chinese smartphone market. Although there’s a trend of sequential decline in demand and production in Q1, China’s smartphone market has been underperforming for nearly three years now.
