Lenovo was the leading PC vendor in 2021 | Global PC shipments grew 15% year-on-year

The ongoing global chip shortage was expected to hamper the sales of PC in 2021. But instead of sales going down, the year 2021 saw the largest shipment total since 2012. According to the recent reports from Canalys, the overall PC market that includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations hit 92 million units with a 1% annual growth in Q4 2021. This pulled the total shipments of 2021(full-year) to 341 million units, which was 15% higher than last year, 27% higher than 2019, and the largest shipment total since 2012.
The total value of shipments in the final quarter of 2021 is estimated to be at USD 70 billion, an annual increase of 11% over Q4 2020. For the full year of 2021, the revenue passed the USD 250 billion mark, which is a 15% increase compared to USD 220 billion in 2020.

For the full year of 2021, Lenovo was the biggest-shipping vendor, hitting a record 82.1 million units, a 13.1% increase compared to 2020. The Chinese tech company was able to capture a 24.1% market share in the year. HP was second, covering 21.7% of the market with its 74.1 million units in shipment.
Dell ended 2021 with total shipments of 59.3 million units and covered 17.4% of the global PC market share. Apple came fourth with its 8.5% market share but was the best-performing vendor in the top five. This Cupertino-based tech giant saw a 28.3% yearly growth, which was the highest among the top five.
Finally, Acer rounded out the top five for both Q4 and the full year, posting shipments of 6.6 million in Q4 and 24.4 million units in 2021.
