Introduction
Mahindra has recently launched its first-ever electric SUV, the XUV400 in the Indian market. This vehicle will now face direct competition with the Tata Nexon EV, which has been a dominant player in the market for some time now. The Nexon EV has enjoyed strong sales and popularity in the price range of 15 to 20 lakhs, however, the introduction of the XUV400 may pose a challenge to its market dominance.
With that said, let’s talk about some key differences between the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400.

Variants and Price
Tata Motors offers the Nexon EV in two versions, the Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV Max. The Nexon EV Prime comes in three different trims: XM, XZ+, and XZ+ Lux, with prices ranging from Rs. 14,49,000 to Rs. 16,99,000. The Nexon EV Max comes in six different options, with prices varying from Rs. 16,49,000 to Rs. 18,99,000.
On the other hand, the Mahindra XUV400 is offered in two variants, EC and EL, with prices ranging from Rs. 15,99,000 for the EC variant with a 3.3 kW charger to Rs. 18,99,000 for the top EL variant with a 7.2 kW charger.

Battery and Performance
The Tata Nexon EV is available with two battery packs, 30.2 kWh and 40.5 kWh, with the larger battery providing more power and torque. The EV prime equipped with a 30.2 kWh battery is connected to a motor that delivers 129 PS of maximum power alongside 245 Nm of maximum torque, while the 40.5 kWh battery used in EV max is connected to a motor that generates 143 PS of peak power and 250 Nm of peak torque.
Similar to the Nexon EV, the Mahindra XUV400 also has two battery options, 34.5 kWh and 39.4 kWh, but both batteries produce the same 150 PS of maximum power and 310 Nm of maximum torque.
In addition, both vehicles have a quick acceleration from 0-100 Km/h, with the Mahindra XUV400 being slightly faster at 8.3 seconds compared to the Tata Nexon EV's 8.9 seconds.
Range
The Nexon EV prime provides 312 Km of range with its smaller 30.2 kWh battery pack, whereas XUV400 claims a range of 375 Km with its 34.5 kWh battery pack. The larger battery pack of both the EVs also follows the same pattern; the Nexon’s bigger 40.5 kWh battery pack provides an increased range of 453 Km, while the XUV400’s 39.4 kWh battery pack has a range of 456 Km.
Charger and Charging time
The Mahindra XUV400 gets both DC and AC charging sockets. A 50 kW DC fast charger can charge the EV from 0 to 80% in just fifty minutes. While a 7.2 kW charger takes about 6 hours and 30 minutes to fully charge the battery. More on, another 3.3kW charger option is available for the EC variant only, which recharges the SUV from 0-100 % in 13 hours.
Tata Nexon EV, on the other hand, gets a 3.3 kW and 7.2 kW AC charger. Both Nexon EV Prime and Nexon EV max can be charged from 0-80% in 9 hours via a 3.3 kW charger. Similarly, Nexon EV Max also comes with a 7.2 kW charger, which takes around 6 hours and 30 minutes to fully charge the battery.
Dimensions
Tata Nexon EV measures 3993 mm in length, 1811 mm in width, and 1606 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2498 mm, ground clearance of 205 mm, and 350 L of boot space. On the other hand, Mahindra XUV400 is 4200 mm long, 1821 mm wide, and 1634 mm high. And it has a wheelbase of 2600 mm, ground clearance of 200 mm, and a boot space of 378 liters.
Features
The Tata Nexon EV comes loaded with a variety of features such as multiple drive modes(ECO, City, and Sport), auto-dimming mirrors, an electric parking brake with auto-hold functionality, cruise control, an electric sunroof, a wireless charger, rear AC vents, Harman-sourced touchscreen infotainment system and many more.
A long list of features is available for the Mahindra XUV400 as well, including an electric sunroof, a 7-inch touchscreen with connected car technology, diamond-cut 16-inch alloy wheels, rear disc brakes, electric tail lamps, and best-in-class cabin space. The EV gets six airbags, cornering brake control, electronic stability control, a rear parking camera, and many more.
