Hyundai Motors has officially teased its upcoming mid-size sedan- the new-gen Hyundai Verna. The carmaker has already opened the booking for the same. To reserve one, customers need to make a payment of INR 25,000.
And as per recent reports, the company is gearing up its launch and it is expected to go on sale in India by May this year.
In this article, we will explore the potential features and expectations for the new Hyundai Verna. So, let's get started.
New-gen Hyundai Verna
Design and Updates
The teasers released by Hyundai Motors for the new-gen Verna suggest that the updated model will feature refreshed design elements. In the teaser images, the front grille appears to be wider than the current outgoing model and has more angular cuts and creases, giving it a more aggressive look. The car's twin-layer headlight setup features a distinctive nose and is consistent with Hyundai's current design language. Furthermore, the teaser images imply that the new Verna will be equipped with a LED daytime running lamp in the form of a horizontal light bar stretching across the entire width of the car.
Moving on to the sides of the sedan, the teaser images suggest that the new Verna will have more cuts and creases than its predecessors, adding to its overall visual appeal. The car's notchback style is sporty and dynamic, positioning it as a more stylish and modern option in the mid-size sedan segment.
At the rear, the new Verna gets a unique look with the taillamps protruding outwards. In addition, the taillights feature crystal-like inserts and are linked by an LED light bar, adding to the car's modern and sophisticated appearance.

Engine and Gearbox
Besides design changes, Hyundai has also revealed the powertrain details for the 2023 version of the Verna. The new sedan will be equipped with two 1.5-liter petrol engines, with the first being an all-new direct-injection turbo-petrol engine expected to produce around 160 horsepower. This engine will come with a choice of a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT. Hyundai plans to eventually use this engine across most of its models in India, replacing the current 1.4-liter turbo petrol engine.
The second engine option is a naturally aspirated 1.5-liter petrol engine that can be paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an IVT CVT automatic.
Both engine options will comply with RDE (Real Driving Emissions) and E20 (20 percent ethanol blend) regulations, according to Hyundai. However, the new Verna will not come with a diesel engine option, making it a petrol-only option in the mid-size sedan segment.
Variants and Colors
The upcoming Hyundai Verna will come in four different trims: EX, S, SX, and SX(O). It is speculated that the higher trims – SX and SX(O), will be equipped with the 1.5-liter TGDI engine, while the entry-level trims will feature the 1.5-liter naturally aspirated unit.
As for the colors, the car will be offered in a total of nine different exterior paint options, including seven single-tone colors and two dual-tone combinations. Additionally, Hyundai has added three new colors to Verna's color palette: Abyss Black, Atlas White, and Tellurian Brown.
Bookings and Price
Customers who are interested in purchasing the new-gen Hyundai Verna can pre-book the sedan by visiting their nearest Hyundai dealership and paying a token amount of INR 25,000.
The pricing for the Verna is expected to be announced by the end of May 2023, which is when the car is expected to hit showrooms in India.
