Oppo has unveiled its first self-developed NPU imaging chip dubbed MariSilicon X  in the Oppo INNO Day 2021 event. The new MariSilicon X is not a fully-fledged chip like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Dimensity 9000, but rather an imaging-based chipset that combines an advanced NPU, ISP, and multi-tier memory architecture in one chip. In this post, we’ll be looking at the specifications, features, and availability of the MariSilicon X.

Talking about the specifications, the new MariSilicon X NPU is based on the 6nm manufacturing process. It can handle 18 TOPS (trillion operations per second) with a dedicated memory bandwidth of up to 8.5GB/s. The dedicated memory in the chip also allows for lower latency loading and storing compared to traditional system memory.

According to Oppo, the IPS supports a 20-bit 120db ultra-high dynamic range in images, which is  4x greater dynamic range than that of Find X3 Pro’s ISP. It will allow devices to capture 4K Ultra HDR videos and night videos at 4K resolution. Oppo further claims that the MariSilicon X will power advanced noise reduction capabilities, improved night-time snaps and 4K videography, real-time live previews, and 4K ultra-dynamic range video.

The MariSilicon X offers separate RGB and white pixel data channels for RGBW sensors. Dubbed as RGBW Pro mode, it is claimed to bring 1.7x improvement in texture quality.
