Indian smartphone market sees a record smartphone shipment in 2021 | Xiaomi was the leading smartphone vendor

Although the pandemic gave a tough start to the year, the Indian smartphone market saw strong growth towards the end of 2021 and set a new sales record. According to the reports of Canalys, the Indian smartphone market saw a growth of 12% compared to 2020, shipping a total of 162 million smartphones.
In the fourth quarter alone, smartphone vendors were able to ship 44.5 million devices, despite pandemic and supply issues.

“India smartphone market dynamics shifted every quarter in 2021,” said Canalys Analyst Sanyam Chaurasia. “COVID-19 crises, volatile consumer demand, and supply chain disruptions plagued the market this year. Vendors adapted to the changing environment by focusing on omnichannel, diversifying their supply chains, and expanding their product mix."

Xiaomi was the leading vendor in India with a 25% market share. The Chinese tech company managed to ship 40.5 million smartphones in 2021, out of which 9.3 million were sold in Q4 alone.
Samsung came second with a 19% share, shipping 30.1 million units in 2021. Likewise, Vivo saw itself on the podium, shipping 25.7 million units during the year.
Realme, for the first time, climbed to third place in India, with a 49% annual growth in Q4 2021. When it comes to the full year 2021, the company was fourth with a 15% share, 24.2 million shipments, and 25% annual growth.
